If any of you are fellow aspiring actors or singers or dancers or comedians or….the list goes on! – you all know those days where you just want to throw in the towel and move back to Bumfuck, Middle of Nowhere and live in your parents basement and become a professional couch potato for the rest of your life stuffing your face with oreos. Yes that was a run-on sentence and yes, these days are the worst. Being an actor and a singer you hear the word “NO”, ALOT! and I mean ALL THE TIME. Rejection is the nature of this business. BUT, I once heard that if you hear a “no” that means you were part of a discussion even if it is inside ONE person’s head. No response is worse than “no”. It’s what you decide to do with that “no” that will make or break you. Currently I am gearing up for pilot season and I’m meeting with managers and agents for possible representation. In this business you hear it all. “You are too tall” “You are too skinny” “You are an out gay actor and there are not enough roles for you” “You can’t play straight” “You are not confident enough” “You don’t have enough credits” “What is, Eating Out?” “Is it a porno?”. Same with the music industry. NOW, there are two things I could do. I could turn on country radio in the car home and cry myself a river after I leave one of these meetings where i was rejected (and trust me I have done this before) or I can put my big boy panties on and GET BACK UP AND TRY AGAIN! That is where this quote comes into play. “Strength: A river cuts through a rock not because of it’s power but it’s persistence.”
So I guess what I am trying to say is no matter how many No’s you get, NEVER GIVE UP! Persist, Persist, Persist! I have alot of you guys to thank for this. If it wasn’t for all the lovely messages I get from you all about how much you are inspired by my music and movies, it would be way easier for me to put in the towel. I just want to take this time to thank all of you for that. You all inspire me to keep going. It’s letter’s like this that give me faith that I am doing the right thing and continuing to follow my dreams. Because at the end of the day it’s about inspiring others to be their true selves and inspiring others to do good. That is what life is all about. Forget about fame or fortune. It’s letters like this one that truly inspire me to keep going! So thank you!
About six months ago I started meditating daily and it has helped me deal with rejection and the struggles of the entertainment industry tremendously! Thanks to my acting school, Anthony Meindl’s Actor Workshop I feel more in touch with my inner self more than ever. It really has changed my life. Both spiritually and in acting. I encourage all of you reading this to start meditating if you are not already. Just look on the internet for “guided meditation tracks” or youtube “guided meditation”. I know some of you reading this are probably thinking I sound crazy but for real, just try!
Well that is all for now, and I want to thank all of you again for all the support on this crazy amazing journey. NEVER GIVE UP!
